Haniel long

Haniel Clark Long was born on March 9, 1888, and died on October 17, 1956, was an American novelist, poet, and essayist. He was popularly known for his Novel, Interlinear to Cabeza de Vaca ( The Marvelous Adventure of Cabeza De Vaca, 1936), this novel depicts the fictional story of the life of a Spanish Conquistador, Nunez Cabeza de Vaca who has washed ashore on the Gulf of Mexico, to survive they must do anything.

Early life and career

Haniel long was born to Methodist Missionaries Samuel park Long and May Clark in Rangoon, Burma ( presently Myanmar). In 1890, the family moved back to the United States, they settled in Pittsburgh, and they later moved to Duluth and later Minneapolis.

Haniel attended Philips Exeter Academy of, New Hemisphere for his high school education, he proceeded to Havard University where he graduated with a degree in Literature in 1910.   He started his career by working as a reporter for New York Globe and the commercial Advertiser.

In 1913, Haniel long got married to Alice Lavinia Knoblauch from Minneapolis, it was that same year that their son Anton V. Long was born

After working for sometimes at New York Globe and as the commercial Advertiser, he returned to Pittsburgh to teach English at Carnegie Technology Institute, he was promoted to The head of the English Department in 1920, and it is that same year that he release his first Novel, Poem, a collection of his poetry, it was followed shortly by Notes for New Methodology in 1926.

Due to Health Issues, Long moved to Sante Fe, New Mexico in 1929 with his wife and his son Anton, it was there that he spent the rest of his life, and it was there that he helped found ” Writer Edition “, this organization focused on printing works by New Mexican writers which include Haniel Long.

With the help of this organization, haniel Long published a book of his verse ” Atlantides in 1933, followed by  Pittsburgh Memoranda in 1935. In 1936, he published the most powerful and popular novella of his career, Interlinear to Cabeza De Vaca ( The Marvelous Adventure of Cabeza De Vaca), this Novella was printed by Writer Edition.

Some of his Novels are Pinon country, Children, Students and a few adults, French soldier, Home from being a war prisoner, The Grist Mill, and A letter to St Augustine. Before his death he finished his last Novel, Spring returns in 1956
