Meshack Asare(Born September 18. 1945) is a talented Ghanaian Author popularly known for African Children Novel or stories .he was born in Ghana and he Currie lives in Degenfeld, Germany . His books were been translated into many languages in addition to being read around Africa , on 24, October 24,2014 he won the 2015 NSK Neustadt prize for children literature becoming the First African to receive that Award . Asare was widely acclaimed for his skillfull weaving of cultural traditions and reality of daily life into story books for children .
● Early life& Career
Born on September 8, 1945 in Ghana to Joseph K. Asare 《 Father》, an Accountant and Agatha Adoma Afrma《Mother》, a trader at Nyankumasi in Ghana . Asare attended College of Art, Kumasi, where he studied Fine Art, After he graduated he worked as a teacher in Ghana from 1967- 1979 《 12years》, during this time he took an extension course in educational psychology from the university of Winconsin .
During his teaching career in 1970, he published his first book ” Taiwa Goes to sea《 1970》 in Ghana, a book that tell of a boy who lives in a village near Accra , who longs to go to sea but they tell him he is too young , undaunted and headstrong he builds his own canoe boat and set out for sea, the book won him the Ghana National Books Award, UNESCO Best Africa Citation and it was also the first book from an African author to be translated to Japanese .
After ten years of not writing books he returned back again in 1981 when he published his second book Kwajo and the brassman Secret《1981》, it was translated into many languages, the book won the Noma Award for Publishing in Africa and The Ibby Award《1986》.
In 1983 he moved to England , where he studied for a MA in social anthropology at the university of London school of oriental and African studies and worked in the field of Art , Education , Culture and Administration, During this time he published number of books including Die Katze Sutch sich einen freund《 Cat in search of friend, 1988, the book won The Austrian National Book Prize《1985》and BIB Golden plaque《1985 》 and Sosu’s call 《 1997》the book won the UNESCO First Prize books for children and young people literature in service in of tolerance
