Oluwabusayo Tope Folarin( born in 1981) is a Nigerian American Author and Executive director of the institute of policy studies. Famously known for his book “Miracle” which won the Caine prize for African writing in 2013, the book was also shortlisted for the prize in 2016. Tope was among the recently named to the Africa 39 list of the most promising Africa under the age of 39 years.
■ Early Life&Education
Born in 1981 in Ogden Utah, United States to Nigerian Immigrant parents, he has four younger siblings. Tope and his parents and his younger siblings lived in Northern Utah including Bountiful and Lake City City, when he was 14 years old Tope and his parents and siblings migrated to Prairie Texas.
After graduating from High School, he enrolled at Morehouse College. Tope studied for a year and a half as an Exchange student first at Bates College and the University of Cape Town, South Africa before returning to the U.S and graduating from Morehouse in 2014 with a B. An in Political Science, he then attended Oxford University where he bagged a Master’s Degree in African Studies and another Master’s degree in Comparative Social Policy in 2006.

■ Writing Career
After graduating he worked as a press speaker and he even participated in the Obama election campaign before he become conservant and acquainted with
Authors and poets including E.Ethelbert miller 2008, prompted and motivated him to write his first novel “Miracle”.
Feeling inspired and Motivated, Tope began to write his first Book ” Miracle” which was completed and Published in 2013, ” Miracle ” a book that tells is set in a Nigerian Evangelical Church in North Texas, it entails the story of a young American Boy who is suffering from Asthma experience the power of faith and the power of deceit when a visiting prophet visiting the conversation to perform a miracle and the boy find himself
Faking a miracle to Please the Congregation, the book was a success which made him gain fame for his excellent writing skills.
In 2013, his book “Miracle” won the Caine Prize for African Writing becoming the First writer based outside Africa to win the Award. ” Miracle” was also shortlisted for the Award Again in 2016.
On January 1st, 2015, his book ” Genesis” was published in Johns Hopkins University Prestigious Literary Magazine 2015, the book entail the story of a young boy parent who migrates from Nigeria to Utah, where the father receives a degree in mechanical engineering but was unable to find a job, he moves with his family to the city of Bountiful, Utah where he was able to secure a job as Auto mechanic, the mother frustrated and changing behaviour, she began to direct violence behaviour to her husband and children, the book was nominated for the Caine prize in African Literature 2016.
On August 6, 2019, he published his book ” A particular Kind of Man” a beautiful and well written that expatriates the expression of the memory, Manhood, and home seen through the first generation of Nigerian-American immigrants.
Tope Folarin serve as an executive director of the institute for policy studies and the Lenning Visiting lecturer at Georgetown University. He also serves as a board member of the Avalon Theatre in Washington, D.C., Tope is the Vice President of the board of the Pen/Faulkner Foundation and a member of the president council of pathfinder.
