Barbara Robbin is a makeup artist and Rik Mayall’s wife. Mayall, Robbin’s husband, was an English-language stand-up comedian, actor, and writer. During the 1980s, Mayall was a pioneer in the alternative comedy scene. He is best known for his long-running collaboration with fellow comedian Ade Edmondson, which began while they were both students at Manchester University. Mayall appeared as a main cast member in a number of cult classic television comedies over the course of his career. Barbara Robbin, the wife of British comedian Rik Mayall, was born in 1955. Since 1985, Robbins and the legendary British comedian had been married in a beautiful ceremony in front of their friends, family, and loved ones. On June 9, Mayall was discovered dead in the couple’s South London home in a “mysterious” death. In a 2012 interview, Barbara Robbins’ husband, Mayall, said of his marriage to his wife, “I’m not bragging, but we’re in love.”

Barbara Robbin is a former makeup artist who portrayed Mayall as Kevin Turvey in the sketch show A Kick Up the Eighties, where they met.

According to her Facebook page, she graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1978. Robbin’s intricate miniature dolls are also promoted on her page.

What brought them together?

They met on the set of Mayall’s sketch show A Kick Up the Eighties in 1981. At the time, Mayall was dating American writer Lise Mayer. Mayall claims that he and Barbara Robbin had an affair behind Mayer’s back until 1985, when Mayer eloped with Robbin to Barbados. Mayall decided to marry Robbin after Mayer became pregnant with his child. Mayer’s child was later miscarried.

Mayall and Robbin still had three children: Rosie in 1986, Sidney in 1988, and Bonnie in 1995. Mayall credits his Rosie with his marriage to Barbara Robbins.

Barbara Robbin was born in the Scottish Highlands. In a 2002 interview with ITV, Mayall stated that the couple’s children were raised Jewish.

In 2012, he stated, “Barb and I are together because of my daughter, Rosie, who turned 18 last August.”

“Maybe he had a fit, maybe it was his heart,” Barbara Robbin said of Mayall’s death to the Daily Telegraph. We just don’t know.” Since a quad bike accident in 1998, he’d been on a lot of medication.

Barbara Robbin was by Mayall’s side when he awoke from his coma in 1998. Following his quad biking accident, the comedian was unconscious for five days. He stated in an interview that she had gone into his room to say her final goodbyes. Mayall told The Daily Mirror:

‘He’s been dead for five days, it seems like a waste of time, so if there’s no sign of life, we’ll unplug him in an hour,’ they tell Barbara, my wife. They left Barb with me, and shortly before 5 p.m., the machine began to beep, beep, and she called the doctors, saying, ‘look, he’s not dead.’ I’m not sure if the doctors said it loudly enough to scare the s**t out of me, but it worked.

Mayall later fully recovered from his injuries. Mayall received the quad bike as a Christmas gift from Barbara Robbin in 1997.

Mayall Robbins, Barbara Robbins’ husband, died of a heart attack after going for a jog on June 9, 2014, at his home in Barnes, Richmond-upon-Thames, London. At the time, he was 56 years old. He was laid to rest near Totnes, Devon, on his family estate, Pasture Farm.
