3 Proven Strategies for Making Money with Cryptocurrency

While cryptocurrency has been around since 2009, it has only recently seen significant growth and has entered the mainstream. The value of cryptocurrency remains highly volatile, but that hasn’t stopped some people from profiting from it.

Whether you’re looking to get your feet wet with some crypto-trading or you want to try your hand at other ways to profit from cryptocurrency, here are three tried-and-true strategies to get you started today!

1) Work as a freelancer in the cryptocurrency industry.

If you have a skill (such as programming or web design), many people will pay you in cryptocurrency for it. These positions are available on CoinDesk’s job board, among other places. And, if you’re really good at what you do, consider working as a freelancer for one of several crypto-consulting firms that offer clients cryptocurrency services such as developing new wallets, etc., and pay freelancers in cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin.

The more skilled you become at what you do, as with everything else in life, the more opportunities will arise. You simply must begin somewhere. Signing up for Coinbase (which takes less than a minute) and opening an account is something I recommend. Following that, linking your bank account is a simple and quick process.

Then, on their website or app, you can fund your account by sending US dollars to your Coinbase USD wallet—and then instantly trade your dollars for Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Litecoin! However, remember to always buy low and sell high! Never invest more than you can afford to lose. Don’t be a fool; know when to stop investing! Never invest money that you are not willing to lose because it may be lost! There are some risks associated with investing/trading in cryptocurrencies, so read up on them before getting started!

2) Take part in bounty campaigns.

Participating in bounty campaigns is an excellent way to not only increase your crypto earnings, but also to gain visibility and authority in your field. This is a good way to help build your portfolio while earning money. If you participate in a bounty campaign for blockchain research on smart contracts, for example, you will receive tokens that can be exchanged for Bitcoin or Ethereum. Just be wary of campaigns that require payment in advance.

These are usually scams or aren’t worth the money you pay for them. And, no matter how appealing an ICO appears, never invest more than you are willing to lose, as the majority of ICOs are nothing more than get-rich-quick schemes! Do your homework before participating in any ICOs, just like you would with any other investment. Before investing, always thoroughly read their whitepaper and FAQs. Finally, consider why you would want to participate in such a project when there are so many other cryptos available. You may find yourself short on explanations for why it should succeed where others have failed. Best wishes!

3) Engage in cryptocurrency trading

Investing in cryptocurrency is a popular option for anyone looking to diversify or increase their wealth. According to CoinMarketCap, there are currently over 1,600 different types of cryptocurrencies in use, with many more on the way.

To invest in these emerging assets, you’ll need an online trading account as well as some form of cryptocurrency (most commonly Bitcoin or Ether) for buying and selling your preferred currency. After that, you can start trading (buying low and selling high) however you want. Be aware that cryptocurrency markets are extremely volatile, even more so than traditional financial markets, so don’t expect overnight success. Before investing in any new asset class, make sure you understand how it works and conduct extensive research.

A quick Google News search reveals that cryptocurrency prices skyrocketed in 2017, starting at $1000 per Bitcoin and peaking at nearly $20,000 in December 2017. As of February 2018, it had dropped back to around $11,000. If you had purchased $100 worth of Bitcoin at its lowest point in November 2016 ($752), it would have been worth nearly ten times as much ($977) by December 2017. However, if you’re just getting started, don’t take on too much risk—invest only what you can afford to lose!
