Akanbi Bamidele Brett(March 23, 1995) popularly known as Cheque is a Nigerian Musician, songwriter and Rapper. He rose to prominence when he released his hit song, ZOOM in 2020, the song was taken from his 5-track project titled RAZOR Ep, and it toppled various music charts during its first week of release.

¤ Early Life &Education

Born on March 23, 1995, in Okitipupa, Ondo state, he grew up in Ondo town in Ondo state. Cheque attended Obafemi solo University, Ile Ife Osun state, Nigeria where he bagged a degree in 2016 alongside Fireboy DML, Blaqbonez, Chinko Ekun, Grasby, Zamora and other Nigerian Musicians.

■ Early Music Career& Rise to Fame

Glowing up before he went to University, Cheque loves the music he does go to an Area where they freestyle and sing, admiring the singer he was anxious and inspired to hold a mic, so he got the mic one day but all he could sing was Cheque, which makes people laughing so whenever people who saw him performing that time on the stage, they will point at him and said ” That is the Cheque guy coming, that is how he got his name Cheque.

He dropped the idea of Going into the music industry after gaining admission into Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, he focused on his study and was a bookworm who was in First class in his First and Second Years. In his second year at the University, Cheque shifted his attention from being a bookworm to music, after getting inspired by his friend, Zamora, it was Zamora who give him his first nickname Kyle B.

Getting started for difficult for Cheque who is still at an early age, he often gets Laughed at, and he sometimes cries due to this, but he keeps the pressure going on and keeps getting Confidence. In 2015 he released Five Track Ep, S.O.O.N E.P featuring Fireboy, Chinko Ekun and Zamora, the success was a bit off as the song did not get enough prominence, after he released S.O.O.N he changed his name from Kyle B to Cheque, cause Cheque felt the name too hard to pronounce.

After graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University in 2016, He and Fireboy who was Dml that got signed to Cruel Station in 2017 on a Year contract deal, the Contract which got them an apartment and some facilities with it, but throughout the year they did not record throughout the year, which saw their contract run out that year and they went back on the street.

Been stranded Cheque and Fireboy could not go to their family in their respective hometown, so they stayed with their friend, Floored. In 2018, Cheque began to gain some confidence, he and Cheque began to record in their Friend’s place, Floored, it was Flonerd that provided a Bed, Food and all the necessary musical recording instruments which they used, so that year they recorded numerous songs counting it as the last opportunity for them.

cheque began to record his freestyling and Rapping Vidoe on his Instagram social handle in 2018 until luck struck him in the middle of 2018 when he was messaged by Phyno, feeling happy and excited that he has hit the Goldmine but his joy went short as he did not hear from Phyno again in a couple of months, but after a while Phyno came back with more enthusiasm and determination and got Cheque signed into Penthauze in 2019, that same year Fireboy Joined YBNL, a record label owned by Olamide and changed his name from DML to Fireboy DML.

Months after getting signed into Penthauze, he released Zoom as the lead track from his debut album track Razor Ep, the song was a hit and it toppled various music charts. A month after in July 2020 he released his second work of his second professional work of his career, Razor Ep, the Ep contain five tracklists including Zoom, Loco, Satisfied, Odun and Hollywood.

Following the next year, he released various singles including Rockstar, No one Else, Dangerous, Call me baby, Loma and a lot more. On 22,September 2021,he released his third debut album, Bravo the album comprised of twelve singles including History, Dangerous, Call you baby, No one else, LoMl, Blind, Body, Sweet Love, Change, Anybody, pray and Free, the album feature Guest Apperance from Fireboy, Olamide, Ayra Star and jackboy.
